Board of Education, Springfield Public School District #186
The Board of Education of Springfield Public School District #186 is comprised of seven members. Each member is elected by the citizens of the individual sub-districts in which they reside for a term of either two or four years as outlined in Illinois School Code.
The Board sets educational policies and guidelines for the Springfield Public Schools, an urban district comprised of over 15,000 preschool through high school aged students.
Meeting Information During the Gubernatorial Disaster Proclamation
The Board of Education is concerned about the health and safety of the Springfield and District 186 communities. In keeping with recommendations issued by the State of Illinois related to the Gubernatorial Disaster Proclamation and in conjunction with the Open Meetings Act, Board of Education meetings will be held in the regular meeting space of the Board Room of the Administrative Center, 1900 W. Monroe Street. Board Members and a majority of staff necessary for the meetings will participate remotely via a Zoom.com webinar format.
TO VIEW THE MEETING
The meetings will be available for public viewing through a live stream on YouTube at the following link: https://www.youtube.com/user/SPSchannel22. Members of the public that are not interested in addressing the Board are encouraged to view the meeting through the YouTube live stream. A recording of each virtual meeting will also be posted on YouTube, as is the case with meetings currently.
The Board Room of 1900 W. Monroe Street will be open during the meeting. However, no more than 10 people shall be allowed into the Board Room during the meeting and social distancing rules shall be strictly enforced. Priority for in-person meeting attendance will be given to those without home internet service or a smartphone which would allow for viewing the live stream.

Individuals interested in addressing the Board have the following options:
- Register as a participant for the meeting webinar. A link to register as a participant for each meeting will be posted below when the meeting agenda is posted.
- Call in by phone. Please contact Julie Hammers at 217/525-4406 by 4:00 p.m. on the day of the meeting to utilize this option. Please leave a message. Ms. Hammers will return your call at her earliest convenience. After 4:00 p.m. on the meeting day and through the end of the meeting, those wishing to participate via phone can email email@example.com with their name, phone number and topic or the agenda item number they wish to address. You will be called at the number provided when it is your turn to speak.
- In-person participation in the Board Room of 1900 West Monroe Street
- Email comments to firstname.lastname@example.org, which will be read aloud during the Public Portion of the meeting.
